Rich Allen is an independent consultant and sociotechnical architect with over two decades of experience, from software engineer to start-up CTO. He specialises in helping organisations reduce friction, evolve team boundaries, and align around the faster flow of value to meet user needs.
Rich is the creator of User Needs Mapping (UNM), a practical visual method for organisational alignment. Based on foundational steps of Wardley Mapping combined with Team Topologies principles, UNM helps teams expose dependencies, define user needs, and make better decisions about team design.
He is author of User Needs Mapping: Aligning Teams Around What Matters and one of the longest-serving Team Topologies Valued Practitioners, playing an active role in shaping modern flow practices. Rich is also creator of the Fast Flow Toolkit and Flow Decision Records.
He is founder of Conjurer Solutions, a boutique consultancy based in the UK.
